We're South Devon's dedicated Mermaid and Monofin swim school. Our lessons are designed for how children actually learn — through excitement, fun challenges, play, and just enough magic to keep them coming back for more.
Our finned classes are designed for children aged 8 and over who can swim 25 metres unaided, float on their front and back unaided, and are comfortable putting their face in the water. If they have a basic understanding of dolphin kicking, it's a plus but we cover everything they will need to be fin-ready.

From First Fin to Certified Mermaid
Our classes follow the STA Mermaid and Mono Fin Award Series — a structured six-level programme developed in partnership with MermaidsUK, taking swimmers from beginner safety skills all the way through to advanced techniques. Each child progresses at their own pace and receives a digital award for every level they complete, until they achieve their final Certified Mermaid award.

Our Class Locations - Two Fabulous Pools!
We swim year-round across two beautiful South Devon pools. Summer term is at Chudleigh Outdoor Pool, and we move indoors to Oldway Swimming Pool in Paignton for autumn and winter.
Our terms run for 8–11 weeks and follow the school calendar, so no juggling out-of-term schedules or missing lessons you paid for during the holidays — we take the same breaks your child's school does.
We are currently accepting expressions of interest for classes at Oldway Pool starting in September which will run for 9 weeks until end of Nov 2026. If you are interested in a monofin class on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon or evening in the autumn term, drop us a line and let us know and we'll add you to our list. You'll then have priority booking when the new class timetables go live at the end of summer!

Mermaid Swim School Sessions at Chudleigh Outdoor Pool
In the summer term, our Tuesday classes are held at Chudleigh's beautiful outdoor pool — a much-loved community lido on the grounds of Chudleigh Community Primary School. Heated to a lovely 29 degrees, it's the perfect spot for a warm Devon evening swim.
The pool has free parking on site, changing facilities, toilets, and wheelchair accessible parking and entrance. Poolside you'll find covered seating and a café kiosk serving hot drinks, snacks, and ice cream.
Quiet, sunny, and surrounded by birdsong and the gentle rustle of the treetops — it's a truly gorgeous place to learn to swim.
Sessions are £10 plus £5 for equipment rental. Bringing your own approved kit can save you money in the longterm. We are always happy to help with guidance and advice on equipment. Just ask!
MERMAID SWIM SCHOOL SESSIONS AT OLDWAY POOL
Our autumn and winter home is Oldway Swimming Pool — a warm, sheltered indoor pool heated to a cosy 30 degrees, making it the perfect escape from the those dreary rainy winter evenings.
We have sole use of the building for every session, which means a quieter, more relaxed environment — no busy crowds, no overwhelming noise. Just your child, their classmates, and the water.
There are changing rooms and heated showers on site, plenty of poolside seating for parents and younger siblings, and lit walking paths leading from accessible parking at Oldway Primary School — so even on dark winter evenings, arriving is easy.
Need Equipment? No Problem!
We offer the option to hire equipment for just £5 per session. Alternatively, you can bring your own — we ask that all personal equipment is sourced from our partner supplier Planet Mermaid, to ensure it meets our safety standards. We even have an exclusive discount code for the Planet Mermaid website — just ask us and we can help.
The two essential pieces of kit which are included in your equipment hire are a monofin and a colourful mermaid skin. We also have a club uniform shirt that is optional and which your child can buy in their choice of colour and with their name printed on for when they're ready to join the Mermaid Squad.
Monofin
We use Planet Mermaid's Magic Fin. This is worn on the feet with soft neoprene 'socks' attached to the monofin.
Mermaid Tail ("Skin")
A Planet Mermaid Tail or "Skin" comes in a wide range of beautiful colours and is compatible with the Magic Fin monofin.
Club uniform
When you're ready to join our Mermaid Squad of regular swimmers, we have a chlorine-resistant swim t-shirt available in gorgeous club colours and the option to have your name printed on the front and back to show you're part of the team!
